About Sarah
I have enjoyed my tenure as a member of Saco’s school board since 2020. Reopening our schools after COVID and balancing the school budget after a $1M deficit were top priorities when I first joined the Board. Since then, I have requested that students have a more equitable experience at Saco schools, and the admins of our schools have answered the call. The superintendent was directed to find new ways to create an exciting experience for our students in addition to keeping Saco’s taxpayers in mind at every turn. With the current partnership with Biddeford, Saco has qualified for more grants for starting new programs and expanding existing programs than we would have otherwise. The Board has also prioritized improvements of Saco Middle School after decades of neglect (new roof, paint, flooring, and furniture) so that SMS can be a building we can be proud of. Planning for the future is something that cannot be ignored.
In addition, I have been a part of the negotiating team for teachers’ and supporting staff contracts. I believe that meaningful raises for staff are an important part of retaining quality teachers to help our students reach their potential while at Saco Schools. Thornton Academy is an equally important partner in this endeavor, and it is important not to lose sight of the first 10 years of school in Saco being the foundation for success when students arrive at TA.
I am a lifelong Mainer who moved to Saco in 2013 where I have raised my three children alongside my partner, David. My oldest child was a TA ‘26 member, and my two younger children attend Saco Middle School and CK Burns. You can find me walking my youngest to school each morning, rain or shine. My family also has a 19-year-old cat, Molly.
